i have been fit most of my life, i have been a cyclist (on and off road), a runner and a boxer. at christmas 2006 i was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in my lungs and was hospitalized for 2 weeks. following this in 2007 i had a life changing accident hitting a tree in the alps on my mountain bike. i had to be airlifted and spent 3 weeks in intensive care in france. i had separated my shoulder, crushed my lung and some of my organs and had severe internal bleeding and narrowly cheated death. on my return to the uk i developed a blood clot in my heart causing my heart to enlarge and nearly burst. after many weeks of drugs ad re-hab i started the biggest challenge of my life, getting fit again. i couldnt get up my stairs to my bed because of my lungs/heart. i have been building my fitness up slowy for the last 4 years, and it has been the hardest thing i have ever done compared to my previous fitness levels. i have always had a polar and they have helped me get back on my feet again. the most important piece of kit i own. take my running shoes, or any of my bikes and give me some sandles and a unicycle, but id never give up my heart rate monitor, it has re-shaped my life on more than one occasion.
